Newborn Sessions

You can expect that most of your newborn baby portraits will be created indoors without any clothing unless otherwise requested. Please remove or loosen tight clothing, including socks and diapers with enough time to expel any red line on the baby's skin. I encourage you to bring several warm fuzzy blankets to wrap your baby during the session. I enjoy wrapping babies in fabrics from my studio as well. Other clothing choices that photograph successfully while still keeping the main focus on the your newborn are sweet baby hats, diapers cover, and tutus, etc... For parents that prefer to have their newborn dressed, keep in mind that simple and less is more.
Be prepared to be in the portraits with your baby. I often use parents as a photo prop. Jeans are always great and a solid color shirt often does the trick. Family members arms also a prop of choice. Be sure to bring a clean black long-sleeved shirt for this session. I also encourage you to bring any items from home that would make your portrait special.

When to Schedule???
I encourage mom's and dad's to schedule pictures in the first 2 weeks of life. Sessions are best when the baby is just 5-10 days new! Feel free to contact me the month you are due and we can temporarily set up a time. When you arrive the studio will be very warm. My rule of thumb is, if I'm not sweating then it's not warm enough. One must remember that newborn babies are only use to the nice consistent temperature they have lived in for 9 months. I will also have a heating pad under the blanket or prop cover to ensure warmth for the newborn.
How Long does it take???
It is not uncommon for the session with a newborn to last 3-4 hours, allowing plenty of time to feed and comfort. Also bring plenty of blankets, and a change of shirt for yourself. Most sessions involve a accident or two due to the newborn being without a diaper.
